How to use subfolders in SendTo menu/folder
Hello,
In Windows XP it was possible to add links in a
subfolder in the SendTo folder.
The effect would be that you can right click a file, select the SendTo menu and you would see a list of links including your subfolder which again showed a submenu.
eg:
Send To > Mail Recepient
Desktop
Notepad
MySubFolder > Hex Editor
File Checker
Wordpad
Fax
How can this be done in Vista and Win7?
Apparently when one creates a subfolder in the SendTo folder, only the subfolder's name will be shown andnot the actual contents.
Are there any registry settings to enable this? Additions to the desktop.ini?
Something to change in the .lnk files? Other windows settings I missed?
Is it possible doing this with an API? Maybe with a junction point or symbolic link?
Any in-dept info on this?
- Kurt
PS: Forgive me if this is in the wrong section.
EDIT: This is not a question about where the SentTo folder is, nor how to add links to the SendTo menu.
The question is how to make the contents of a subfolder in the SendTo folder show up as a secondary popup menu like it did in XP.
My mouse doesn't allow me to click on anything
Well this issue literally only started a couple hours after getting and connecting my second monitor. And I am guessing it may have something to do with it.
So what happens is when my computer turns on i can left click, right click and move my mouse on the desktop on both monitors however it doesn't allow me to click on anything in the taskbar (left clicking and right clicking) and when I open an application it won't allow me to click on anything in the application it just makes the window unactive since the top section goes from blue to grey.
it does however work on internet browsers perfectly fine which is odd. I have also tried restarting and it doesn't work, but if I sign out then sign back in, it starts working again? I was hoping someone would have a permanent fix for it rather than having to log out then sign back in every time I turn my computer on.
I am using windows 10...if that's any help?.

My task-bar keeps popping up in windows 7, what's causing it and how do I stop it?
My mouse is at the top of the screen and I even unplugged it which didn't do anything.
I have noted tht applications that want my attention will also show the taskbar (which is also annoying) though in this case they will keep the bar open until I focus the window in question. I have closed all programs to see if it's one of them causing it.

Alt+D (select explorer's address bar shortcut) won't work on some (french?) Vista systems
After googling that up I noticed the shortcut still existed on Vista and was working for most people. So I posted on a french forum and asked whether it was for them. About half of them said it didn't work. And it seemed like the ones who said it worked had an US version of Vista. Not positive this is related, though
Can anyone from Microsoft confirm it's working on french Vista's?
And in the case it has nothing to do with the language, what could possibly cause this shortcut to break? I personally find it extremely useful and also use it in web browsers.
Thanks in advance!
The connections's icons ie. "Broadband connection 1,2" etc which r present in the networks menu has disappared pls help

Language bar disappeared
Hi there,
The problem seems to be a heritage from previous Windows versions. And seems M$ did not bother to work this problem out in Vista, there are still lots of requests in the net. Almost no "universal" solution up to date.
Although, my case is somewhat unusual.
At some point I noticed that the language bar had disappeared from it's usual place in the system tray. Thought it got hidden because it was inactive (I alsways use keyboard assignments). But that was not it. The usual sequence (alt+shift) did not work anymore. In regional settings->keyboards everything was fine as it should've been. Changes had no effect.
After surfing the net for two days found a temporary solution to at least be able to switch between layouts. I had to assign ctr+1 and ctr+2 to inmlement a "fixed" switching between the languages. Extremely incomfortable.
Now the most interesting part. When a request for elevation appears (grey transparent background), I can see the language bar floating on desktop, I can touch it, move it, change input language. But once the request is comleted (OK or Cancel), it's gone!!
Another "mistery": the old scheme (alt+shift) works in non-unicode programs, such as command prompt, FAR etc. But doesn't want to work in any GUI application.
Any suggestions? I know XP registry fixes but the seem to be of no use in Vista.

Application stays minimized in the taskbar
I have an installation of Windows Vista Home premium 64bit SP1 on my home computer and I've recognized following problem: some applications after start remain minimized in the taskbar and can be closed only. The application window cannot be maximized and does not appear if I click on the taskbar application button. It is strange, because some applications (the majority) don't have this behaviour and work properly, but some of them behave like this and don't display its windows. If I run mouse cursor over the taskbar button, an icon with window preview appears (and in this view can be seen that the application works), but I don't have the possibility to show the application window.
Have anyone recognized similar problem and does anyone know how to fix it ?
Many thanks in advance for your replies.
"Pin to taskbar" in Vista
Does there exist any way in Windows Vista to "pin program to taskbar" like in Windows 7? I am not asking about the "quick launch", because in quick launch the opened applications and the quick launch buttons are separate rather than at the same location like in Windows 7.
And in win 7, one can easily drag-drop/move pined programs on the taskbar, but in Vista it seems not possible to drag-and-drop application icons on the taskbar.
I only reverted back to Vista due to graphic card incompatibility with Win 7. Is there any way to emulate the above mentioned features in Vista?
Thanks,
Bob
Black Screen with only mouse pointer after login on Vista (Microsoft Security Essential was the culprit)
I already solve this but if anyone else has this problem it might help.
I would login and eventually get a black screen. Ctrl Alt Del worked and I could open the task manager.
This problem started after not having used this computer for a really long time and I let it install all the updates it downloaded.
I eventually figured out that MsMpEng was stuck starting and it was preventing anything else from starting.
I decided to rename the installation folder since I could not open Programs and Features to uninstall Microsoft Security Essential. "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Client" renamed to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security ClientDISABLED"
I found Vista always has at least a part of Microsoft Security Essential running even in safe mode.
I have a dual boot with XP as the other OS so I logged into XP and renamed the folder the Microsoft Security Essential is installed in on the Vista hard drive.
I think you can do the rename from the startup repair command prompt although you might have to rename MSMpEng.exe, which is in "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Client\" instead. I don't remember my dos commands very well since they get little use, so I just search Google for them.
You can also remove the hard drive and temporarily put it into another computer to do the rename. If you do this then your drive letter will change from C:\ to whatever the other system gives it.
After the rename windows logged in correctly. So I promptly went and renamed the folder back and then uninstalled Microsoft Security Essential. Avast then replaced it.
Missing internet connection icon in taskbar
The internet connection icon is missing in the taskbar. It was there when I first got the computer a few days ago and no it's gone. I'm not sure what I did to remove it or how to get it back.

Vista User Account Picture - Empty Frame in Domain Logon Screen
I'm running identical Vista Enterprise computers in a lab environment on a Windows Domain, and am having an issue with the user account picture. Namely, on the user logon screen, just above the fields for the username and password, there's a giant empty frame where the user account picture should be.
I've already replaced the user.bmp and guest.bmp, so that our company logo will show up for users in the start menu after they've logged in, and will show up in the logon window for their user name if they've locked their session, but I'm unable to get the picture to show up on the original logon screen before the user logs in.
Some group policies we have include:
Interactive logon: Do not display last user name | Enabled |
Interactive logon: Do not require CTRL+ALT+DEL | Enabled |
Always use classic logon | Enabled |
So far I haven't found any good info that refers to this problem. I've only seen two posts on these forums that come close to the problem I'm having, but neither touch on it directly and provide a solution. They are:
http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2233417&SiteID=17

Does anyone know if it's even possible to force a user account picture to be displayed on the Vista logon screen when on a domain? Thanks in advance.

Disable "Your search might be slow because indexing is not running" message
Hello,
Is there any way to disable the "Your search might be slow because indexing is not running. Click to turn on the index" message?
I have disabled windows search service for performance consideration, but this message bar appears every time I am searching for files, and even if I clicking the cross on the right of the bar, next time when I am doing another search it re-appears.
How can I permanently disable it, by registry or other means?
